First designed in 1958, the Danelectro 58 Longhorn is still a bass with a big difference. This faithful reissue of an underground legend still bears the same light playing feel of a short scale-length, the same iconic tulip-style shaping, and the unmistakable sound of a Masonite construction teamed up with a pair of lipstick pickups.

The Danelectro 58 Longhorn Bass

Those single-coil lipstick pickups are renowned for their high-output sound which is exactly why this bass is so versatile and able to punch through any mix. The setup of the more traditional (yet adjustable) rosewood bridge passes the string vibration directly through the Masonite body (formed under high pressure and temperature), the density of which results in a naturally warm tone that's then rounded off by the bite of the pickups.

The Handsome Beast

The long, elegant horns are really what burn the image of this bass into the brain, but they also come with a welcome bonus because those deep cutaways are what grant comfortable access to every one of the 24 frets. The timeless style is carried through to the electronics section, where the pots have been stacked retro-style, setting you up with a volume and tone pot per pickup. The maple neck has been finished with a rosewood fretboard and has a stable and adjustable truss rod with headstock access, and since the whole thing comes coated in a vintage Copper Metallic Burst, this might be a reissued Longhorn but the fifties character is 100% OG.
