The Synthstrom Audible Deluge is a well-equipped, second-generation groovebox that hails all the way from New Zealand and wields huge sound-sculpting potential. Unlike many of its American and Japanese-made counterparts, this groovebox hasn't been deliberately kept relatively basic in order to keep the price, options and size down. Synthstrom likes to do things a little differently, which means that the Deluge has been kitted out with an army of controls and puts a ton of options on the table.

Features of the Synthstrom Audible Deluge

The core concept of the Deluge is relatively conventional but seriously comprehensive. You're getting built-in sound engines, dedicated sequencing pads, subtractive synthesis, wavetables, a 64-voice polyphony and even FM synthesis. What's more, samples like drum loops can be played from an SD card, and the FX section includes classic effects like delay, reverb and chorus as well as things like bit-crush and stutter. Compared to the original Deluge, the old LED display has been replaced with a modern OLED display, and we haven't even mentioned the 128 dual-function pads that make operating the whole thing that bit more fun and intuitive, especially after you've assigned custom short-cuts.

Surprisingly Complete

DIN-MIDI as well as CV/Gate come built in, so interfacing with Eurorack equipment, for example, is no problem. MPE is also supported, and you get a built-in microphone plus a mini-jack microphone input. The Deluge can even host USB-MIDI devices. Other practical features are the update-able firmware and the built-in rechargeable battery that gives you up to six hours of sound-creation before it needs a recharge.
