New Re-Re-Re-Release: The Prophet 5 & Prophet 10
"New? These have been around for forty years!" I hear you, but the fact is that Sequential have actually re-released their legendary Prophet 5 and Prophet 10 synthesizers! How remarkable is that? Two heavy-weight champions from modern music history launched once again after almost half a century after their original release. Interesting!
Genuine Classics
The original Prophet 5 was released during a time when synthesizers were considered state-of-the-art, avant-garde-like instruments with real preset storage. While preset storage is something we often we take for granted now, it was nothing short of black magic back in the day. Big-name producers all used Prophets, which had manifested themselves as the best of their kind, packed with all the technologies later analogue synths would feature: oscillators, filters, envelopes and LFOs. The classic Prophet 5 has a 5-voice polyphony, while the first Prophet 10s were basically two Prophet 5s crammed into one with two keyboards and a polyphony of 10. Unfortunately, the chances of ever finding an old Prophet 10 are, I'm afraid to say, less than zero.
The New Prophets
Let's fast forward to today. The new Prophet 5 and Prophet 10 from Sequential could be seen as rev4 models, seeing as a number of revised models have been released in the past. Visually, both new Prophets are identical, the only thing that's different is the little name plate. Under the hood, the polyphony has been given a much-needed upgrade, which explains the price difference between the two. Also, the Prophet 10 no longer comes with a dual-keyboard, making it a lot easier to get from A to B.
Fresh, vintage synthesizers firmly rooted in music history, built for true connoisseurs: the Prophet 5 and Prophet 10 come straight from Dave Smith Instruments' analogue ranks. You can find more information on the product pages linked below.
