In the early '60s, Fender started using the Blue Ajax capacitors in amplifiers. It soon turned out to be a huge success. By 1962, all Yellow caps were replaced by the Blue Ajax caps. These capacitors are made of Mylar, aluminium foil and wax and produce a genuine bluesy sound. Fender amps from the '50s and '60s are still immensely popular, not because of their design per se, but because of their distinctive sound. The electronics inside these amps are a great contributing factor to their distinctive sound. Whether purposely or not, the capacitors that were used at the time are largely responsible for the familiar Fender sound of the fifties and sixties. Until recently, these capacitors were no longer made - although other manufacturers have tried to imitate them on more then one occasion.
