The Red Astron was used in Fender's Tweed amps in the early fifties and is the most imitated capacitor out there. These capacitors produce a characteristic rough-and-tumble tone. They are made of kraft paper, aluminium foil and wax. The capacitors have a delightfully smooth and clear treble and bass sound, while the mids sound relatively aggressive and more complex. They are perfect for grungy rhythms and singing solos.

Fender amps from the '50s and '60s are still immensely popular, not because of their design per se, but because of their distinctive sound. The electronics inside these amps are a great contributing factor to their distinctive sound.
