In the Premium form of the SR5CMDX, Ibanez present another exclusive, high-spec 5-string bass that doesn't just stand out in terms of sound and feel but sports a unique look where both the top and the back are crafted from three different woods: purpleheart, beautifully-grained curly maple and stunning brown walnut. Even the pickup covers have been made using exotic-looking wood and, as befits any high-class bass, this Ibanez 5-string also comes mounted with deluxe, gold-plated hardware.

The SR5CMDX: Turns a Bright and Airy Acoustic Sound Into Broadly Adaptable Tone

Made of good old alder, the slim round body of this SR model is joined to a stable bolt-on neck that's made of three parts panga-panga and two parts walnut. The 12"-radiussed fretboard, meanwhile, has been lined with 24 medium frets and, since it's made of wenge-like panga wood, helps to tightens up the lows of the lush and bright foundation sound before adding more overtones to the highs. To support modern amplification, the SR5CMDX has been armed with two Nordstrand Big Single pickups that combine with a Ibanez Custom Electronics preamp, a 3-band EQ and a 3-way mid frequency switch, allowing you to dial in an unprecedented range of both active and passive sounds.
