In that case, you should take a look at Sonor's Martini drum kits. Don't let its compact size fool you, this kit has a big sound! It consists of a 14 x 12-inch bass drum, an 8 x 8-inch tom, a 13 x 10-inch floor tom and a 12 x 5-inch steel snare. The shell set does not include hardware, except for the tom holder, floor tom legs and bass drum riser.

The tom, floor tom and bass drum shells are made of nine cross-laminated plies of poplar, bringing the total shell thickness up to 7.2 mm. This allows for optimal resonance and an excellent balance between tone and volume. All shells feature lugs with the TuneSafe system, which ensures that the tension rods stay firmly in place and that your drums won't go out of tune.

Small but sweet

This drum kit is very well suited for young drummers who want to take a step up from their children's drum kit to a more professional model, without it being too big or too expensive. Sonor always offers high-quality products, and their Martini kits certainly live up to that high standard. As such, this shouldn't be viewed exclusively as an entry-level kit. Especially students of drumming who live in small apartments can benefit from this compact kit. With it, you could even walk or take the train to your gig (that is, if you can get one of your band mates to carry your heavy bag of hardware for you). In short, it's highly portable and excellent for touring! Furthermore, these kits are a great choice for jazz and latin drummers.

Big sound - limited volume

Real rockers should take note that the bass drum is relatively small, which means it moves a lot less air than you are used to. As this kit's overall volume is at an average level, it's perhaps not ideal if you want to play the really loud stuff. You could make a port hole in the bass drum's resonant head for a bit more punch. However, you should take into account that even a 4-inch port hole is massive on a 14-inch bass drumhead, so it shouldn't be any bigger than that. If you'd make the port hole any bigger than 4 inches, you might as well remove the resonant head altogether. While this kit sounds great in and of itself, if you mic it up and amplify it, you won't believe what you're hearing!
