Meinl's CAJ7NT-BK is a cajon that consists of a naturally finished body made of rubberwood and a faceplate that's made of premium fibreglass. You play this hand percussion instrument - which features a padded area and rounded edges and corners for your comfort - while seated on top of it. Cajons have become more popular lately, mostly because they are great instruments to use during more intimate settings and acoustic performances.

Playing the cajon

Simply take a seat on the padded top of the cajon, and you're ready to get started. You play the instrument by striking the front plate with your hands, and possibly your heels. To protect it from being damaged and to prevent the sound from being distorted due to contact with the floor, the bottom of the cajon is fitted with special rubber feet.

Inner workings of the cajon

On the back of the cajon, you'll find the Sound Port Ring that allows the tones you create to escape into the great wide open and inside you'll find all the inner workings that help create the instrument's unique sound. For instance, you have the adjustable snare wires that provide the sizzle effect, which are fitted with the String Mute System. This means that you can adjust the tension of the snare wires by using the included Allen key, greatly expanding the cajon’s range.
