This solid slice of the Fender legend harks back to 1958, bringing far more than just a high-spec Strat, but a goosebump-inducing collector's item. Meet the Fender Custom Shop Time Machine Series '58 Strat Relic. 1958 would be the final year that Fender would grace their models with one-piece quarter-sawn maple necks, just before Leo Fender made the step over to the rosewood 'slab' fretboards that would totally transform the sound. Due to their unbelievable level of stability and naturally sweet and clear tone, the Strats that were built in 1958 are fiercely sought after, and the '58 Strat Relic is a deep nod to all of that glory - plus a few welcome modifications.
The Time Machine '58 Strat Relic: Authentic Finish
Echoing the 1958 original, the Custom Shop have given this model a two-piece body carved out of hand-selected alder, giving it an immediately familiar and friendly foundation sound while the hand-applied wear and tear gives every example the played-in look and feel of a model that's seen some hefty touring schedules. The highly-resonance one-piece maple neck has a super-snug 1954 Soft-V profile, has been coated in an ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer, and couples with the 9.5-inch fretboard radius and a classic pack of twenty-one narrow-tall 6105 frets to complete effortless, Custom Shop style playability.
Authentic Sound
The Fender ‘58 Strat Relic spits the wide-ranging, 100% authentic sound of three Custom Shop Hand-Wound Fat '50s Single-Coil Strat pickups. As a nice bonus on the side, a Tone-Saver treble bleed circuit has been fitted to keep the trebles fully in tact, retaining full and flawless sound no matter the volume level, while the smooth action of a Custom Shop Vintage Synchronized Tremolo bridge polishes off the high-grade hardware setup. Like every instrument that leaves the Custom Shop floor, this love-note of a guitar comes complete with a deluxe case, a strap and a certificate of authenticity.
