The Jem77FP2 is the modern version of Steve Vai's famous Flower Pattern Jem from the eighties. This instrument has exactly the same features as the original. For instance, it features the well-known Monkey Grip handle which is Vai's trademark. A difference is the neck which is made of five parts for extra strength and stability and the Evo2 pickup which was designed specifically for this model. Like its original, this Jem77 Floral Pattern 2 has a back and headstock with a fabric with floral pattern below its lacquer. An extreme finish for an extreme guitarist!
Ibanez Jem77FP2: original Jem features
The body of the JEM77 FP2 is made of high-quality American basswood for a rather warm sound with rich mids. The neck is made of five pieces of maple and walnut. The rosewood fretboard has 24 frets and is decorated with a beautiful tree-of-life inlay which is also a typical Vai feature. The last four frets have been scalloped for more sustain at those high notes. In contrast to modern Ibanez guitars, this model has an old-fashioned sculpted cutaway heel, which means the body has been slimmed down for more playing comfort.
Edge tremolo and DiMarzio Evolution pickups
When you say Steve Vai, you say dive bombs and extreme vibrato effects. As such, this guitar got a Floyd Rose-style floating tremolo bridge, an Ibanez Edge like the original. Thanks to the 'Lions Claw' cutaway behind the bridge, it's possible to bend the strings up three tones with the tremolo. The guitar is equipped with Dimarzio pickups in HSH configuration with a powerful Evolution humbucker in the neck position and a single coil in the middle. The bridge pickup is the new Evo2 with more headroom and dynamics which results in a beautiful clean when you reduce the volume.
