Every guitarist knows that to get a great-sounding guitar full of character you need to use choice wood types. Seagull, a Canadian guitar brand under the leadership of Robert Godin, has built a great name for itself, certainly thanks in part to the many solid-wood guitars they have in their assortment. The Maritime SWS mahogany HG ('SWS' for Solid Wood Series and "HG" for High Gloss) is a fantastic example of the excellence for which Seagull has become known. Besides the rosewood fretboard, the entire instrument is made of mahogany, and solid mahogany at that! As you can imagine, that means you'll get nothing but rich sound and resonance from this guitar.

Maritime SWS Mahogany HG: finish

The finish features the same high quality as the woods that went into fashioning this guitar. Seagull built this guitar by hand, and as such it was created with a keen eye for detail. The high gloss finish is a beauty to behold, and the wood grain simply breathes purity and artisanship. Just like the body, the neck is crafted from mahogany, and it is joined by a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard. The tuners are of a rugged make, and respond exquisitely to changes in tuning without creating slack.

Body and sound

The wood used for the body of the Seagull Maritime SWS Mahogany was pressure tested, which means that it was tested to be sure that it would produce optimal sound characteristics and response. The body also features a high-quality finish free of any unnecessary frills, to stay true to the overall purity of the instrument. As it is a dreadnought model guitar, it has a sizeable body for well-supported sound, and you can expect a relatively bright tone that is lively and full of trebles. Thanks to the mahogany, the mid frequencies are also very well represented, and the bass tones are emphasised nicely.
