Tech 21 hasn't just raided the sonics of iconic Dartford amplifiers to voice the Character Plus Series Mop Top Liverpool stompbox, but generously throw in a Rangemaster-style booster for excellent measure. So you're getting two channels of sparkling and undeniably cool sixties and seventies style amp sound alongside a little welcome push that works seamlessly with both channels. Each channel also features a dedicated speaker simulation, so you're free to mould and shape two bespoke guitar sounds and flip between them via the A/B switch planted all the way over on the right.

The Tech 21 Mop Top Liverpool: Bright British Sound Plus Coloured Boost

Even before you hit the central Boost switch, you have a character-packed British amp sound on the first channel, where the low-mids can be given a nice push at will. Hit the A/B switch to flip over to the second channel and things get even bigger, with an emphasis on the high-mids, mimicking the sound of over-worked Alnico speakers to satisfying effect. The pedal can be bypassed completely via the leftmost switch, but engage one of the two channels and activate the Boost switch, and you gain the coloured overdrive that countless guitarists have harnessed before you - especially when combined with a classic EL84-style amplifier. Unlike the throwback gear it's been built to emulate, the Tech 21 Mop Top can be plugged into an audio interface and directly hooked up to the PA system - or you could just jack it straight into your amplifier or stick it through the effects loop to couple it with your power amp.
