Every individual cymbal from Meinl's renowned Byzance series has a unique, distinct sound. Take these B14DAH hi-hats, for instance - a pair of 14-inch hats that are hand-crafted in Meinl's facility in Turkey. They do not have the usual smooth traditional or brilliant finish, instead these dark hats look a bit worn, due to their raw, untreated surface with visible hammer marks.

Of course, the finish gives these Byzance hi-hats a certain sound. Meinl describes the sound as 'esoteric', and it certainly has a dark and atmospheric character to it. When you open them up, these hats sound raw and crunchy, without ever being trashy. Furthermore, they are quite easy to play, as they respond quickly and accurately to both your drum sticks and the hi-hat pedal. The sustain and pedal chick are short and modest, partly thanks to the dark finish. Such a combination results in a pair of hi-hats that won’t be overpowering, yet still offers its own unique sound.
