For a number of years now, Meinl has been releasing various experimental cymbals in their Generation X series, which are quite popular amongst drummers who are open to new sounds and new techniques. Take this GX-8DB drumbal, for instance, which is something completely different from a crash or hi-hat cymbal. It's an 8-inch cymbal made from Meinl's MS63 brass alloy and co-designed by drummer Johnny Rabb, who wanted a tool that could give an acoustic drum an almost electronic edge.

The drumbal looks a bit like a splash cymbal with a little handle to hold on to. However, when you place it onto a snare drum or a tom, the innocent-looking GX-8DB can completely transform its sound, making your snare drum sound like a clap from a TR-808, for instance. If you're creative with the way you handle the drumbal, you can even create a talking drum effect. The drumbal comes with a number of valuable playing tips, so that you can really expand your sound palette without having to spend a lot of money.
