The product of years of development and made from sixteen staves of walnut, the Tama TVW146S Star Stave Snare Drum delivers a rich and warm sound and a punching attack. As well as the wood, the sheer quality of this snare lies in the details: the extra recess in the shell for the snare wires; the pre-fitted Lineair Drive snare strainer; the addition of three air vents in the design of the shell; the all-new set of single-piece lugs; and an extremely responsive set of Hi-Carbon snare wires. The shell itself has been precision-constructed to ensure a solid, slicing and cracking character.

Following tireless research and trial and error, the snare wire recess has a big effect on the resonance of the snare wires by ensuring that they make consistent contact with the resonant head, expertly dictating the sustain, the sensitivity and the timbre of the drum. Meanwhile, the three air vents dry up the sound for more focussed and balanced projection and the tight set of lugs form a bridge-like structure between the upper and lower tension hoops, making as little contact with the shell as possible. This edition of the Star Stave also features eight lugs instead of ten, lowering the weight, upping the resonance, and polishing off a versatile and professional kit addition.
