Pioneer DJ Drop The PLX-CRSS12: A True Hybrid Turntable
Hot news! Pioneer DJ just released the PLX-CRSS12: a hybrid bit of DJ kit that mashes up DVS technology, a battle-ready analogue turntable design and a fully-fledged controller that supports Serato as well as Rekordbox.
The Pioneer DJ CRSS12: The Best of All Worlds
Catering to both Serato and Rekordbox users, the CRSS12 ('Cross Twelve') is Pioneer DJ's latest take on a neat analogue turntable that offers seamless digital hardware and software integration. It's not only a superb DVS controller for Serato DJ and Rekordbox, but sets you up with the flexibility of MIDI and the option to add a DJM-S7 or DJM-S11 for on-the-fly loop creation and smooth cue assignments.
Analogue Perfection
Also built for spinning good-old vinyl records, the PLX-CRSS12 features an enhanced switching power supply to help eliminate noise and vibrations, and comes housed in a robust, galvanised housing that boasts the strength and durability needed for intense performances. The CRSS12 offers adjustable brake time and even the torque of the built-in motor can be set to one of three different settings, giving more traditional DJs ample ways to scratch it up the way they like.
Unchained in DVS Mode
The Pioneer DJ PLX-CRSS12 truly shines when it's hooked up to a mixer and then dropped in DVS controller mode and positioned in battle mode for eased access to the performance pads, start/stop button and other controls. It also comes with a special MAGVEL clamp which you can stick on your DVS vinyl for a custom feel in terms of weight and torque. Meanwhile, the integrated display tells you everything you need to know, including deck status, pitch information, the key you're in and the BPM, no matter if you're running Serato or Rekordbox.
Speaking of pitch and key, the CRSS12 also features a Step-Pitch mode, allowing you to raise or lower the pitch in steps as well as in terms of percentage for the optimum pitch-and-speed balance between two tracks. In addition, Pioneer DJ have fitted four performance pads which can be assigned to things like hot-cues and sampler functions, or even doubled with the 5-8 control whenever you're feeling creative. Stems are also supported and more fanatic scratch-DJs will be happy to learn that they have the option to set up a Scratch Bank, though it should be said that the functionality of this section depends on the software you're running.
To sum it all up, the Pioneer DJ CRSS12 is a nifty, bang-up-to-date tool for old-school DJs, digital scratch DJs and DVS devotees alike.
