Sire continue to further develop and evolve their versatile Marcus Miller V7 5-string basses. This 2nd Generation Alder model not only comes with a similarly appealing price as its predecessor but a number of useful upgrades. Wrap your hand around the neck and you'll feel something you won't quickly find on comparable models: rounded fretboard edges. This, along with a flatter 9.5-inch radius and jumbo frets, significantly improve playing comfort, so you can spit the same licks and riffs as you could with the first generation V7, just with more ease than ever.
The V7-5 2nd Generation Alder: Passive Sound and Active Versatility
Playing comfort isn't the only aspect of this Marcus Miller signature that Sire have continued to hone. Armed with two new Super-J Revolution single-coil pickups that still shape thick, vintage Formvar-style sound but now include a special Alnico magnet ageing treatment, this 5-string bass comes prepared to sling a broad range of classic bass tone. Moreover, since the winning recipe of the versatile electronics section has remained untouched, the highly adaptable V7 offers both passive and active sound and not only comes with a 3-band EQ but the trusty mid frequency control, allowing you to boost or cut the range between 80 and 2,000 Hertz.

Dit instrument heeft veel om van te houden: een hele fijne, afgeronde hals en een fatsoenlijk out-of-the-box afstelling. Ik heb maar een klein beetje moeten bijstellen om fret buzz weg te halen. Daarnaast veel klank-mogelijkheden en een prachtige afwerking. Ook een custom slagplaat erop monteren was appeltje-eitje.
Enige nadeel vind ik dat wanneer je de balans-knop voor de pickups (voorste naar achterste pickup) op iets anders zet dan de default (midden), dat er veel ruis/brom vanaf komt. Ook is de gewichtsverdeling niet ideaal (de nek is vrij heavy), maar ik kan er mee leven.
Al met al een heel fijn instrument met een uitstekende prijs-kwaliteit verhouding.
Deze bas heb ik nu twee maanden in gebruik. Voor het geld is het een geweldig instrument. Prima hals, vanuit de verpakking goed afgesteld. De bas is echter wel aardig aan het gewicht. Maar misschien is het niet eerlijk dit te vergelijken met een 4-snarige Jazz bas.

As a long time guitarist, I recently decided to get into bass, and after much consideration and reading of reviews - I went for the Sire V7 5 string in Alder. This bass really has no right being as good as it is! The neck feels smooth and fast, and the frets are beautifully finished. The low B is resonant and meaty sounding, and the onboard 18v active circuitry provides great scope for shaping your tone. Being a Jazz style bass, it is very versatile, and can achieve tones from P bass rock, to smooth jazz, funk and slap. In passive mode it also sounds great, and the ability to switch between active and passive at the flick of a switch, means you'll never be caught out if you happen to run out of batteries. All in all, I would highly recommend this bass!
