The American Standard series is the embodiment of everything that Fender stands for: a great tone, fantastic playability and uncut American quality. This American Standard Telecaster is the latest version of Fender's popular classic from the fifties. From its improved bridge design to the modern neck construction, every detail of this guitar was made for optimal playing comfort and user-friendliness. This particular example has a beautifully grained Ash body with a classic 2-tone Sunburst finish. Also, its neck is made of one-piece maple, providing a little more sparkle than a rosewood version would. The American Standard Telecaster is delivered with an exclusive case, Fender guitar strap, instrument cable and polishing cloth.
Upgrades on the American Standard Telecaster
Fender have opted to upgrade the American Standard Telecaster with superior Custom Shop pickups, namely a Broadcaster in the bridge position and a Twisted Tele near the neck. The bridge pickup produces that neat, fierce and clear Telecaster tone that has won the hearts of so many guitarists in genres ranging from country to blues to modern hard rock. The Twisted Tele combined the longer alnico 5 magnets of a Jazz Bass with extra windings and a nickel/silver cover (instead of the traditional brass cover), making it produce more output and a fatter sound comparable to that of a Strat. In addition to the pickups, Fender also adapted the body by fitting it with a back contour (like that of a Stratocaster), removing the rib-poking edge, for more comfort during playing.
Modern edition of a legendary classic
Even though they have a high regard for tradition, Fender often apply the latest technology to make their guitars sound and play even better. The neck of this American Standard Telecaster provides you with more comfort during playing thanks to its 22 medium jumbo frets, a relatively flat 9.5-inch fretboard radius and a Bi-Flex truss rod system. This allows for a very low action without clattering or loss of strings. The comfortable hand-rolled fret edges have of course been maintained on this guitar, but the vintage-style ash tray bridge has made room for a modern version with six adjustable Strat-type saddles for optimal intonation. The bridge is attached to the body with no fewer than 5 screws, creating an even better transference to the lightweight ash body.

De samenstelling en afwerking van mijn Fender American Standard Telecaster (2-Color Sunburst) is helemaal geweldig! De pick-ups klinken waanzinnig goed op mijn Marschall versterker. Het klassieke Telecaster geluid is niet te schril in de brug positie en de hals pick-up is warm en diep, vergelijkbaar met het geluid van een Fender Stratocaster. Verder blijft de gitaar goed op stemming en is de intonatie uitstekend.
De afstelling van de fabriek was niet helemaal naar mijn zin. De door de fabriek ingestelde snaarhoogte was iets te hoog naar mijn smaak, dus deze heb ik zelf iets verlaagd. Dit is de enig aanpassing die ik noodzakelijk achtte. Eenmaal aangepast is het helemaal mijn gitaar geworden en een lust om op te spelen. Dit is waarschijnlijk de best spelende en best klinkende gitaar waarop ik ooit gespeeld heb.
