Eric Clapton is a true icon in the world of blues, rock and pop music. Almost everyone knows hits like 'Layla' or 'Tears in Heaven'. His sound is synonymous with the Stratocaster which is why Fender has honoured him with this Custom Shop Artist model. The special Strat is handmade in America of specially selected components. The 'Blackie' and Olympic White versions of this Signature model have been around for a while already, but this model is a very chique Mercedes Blue. It features Vintage Noiseless pickups to counteract unwanted sounds and give you that clear Clapton tone. It comes complete with a tweed case and luxury accessories.

Custom Shop Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster: construction

Mr Slowhand puts his soul into every note. This Strat with a '50s design has had some modern upgrades to help you do the same. The fretboard has a 9.5 inch radius so that notes are not cut off when pressed down. The neck has a comfortable V profile. For a balanced tone, the body is made of alder, while maple has been chosen for the neck. Together, they give you a bright sound with a good dose of bite in the trebles. A fixed vintage-style tremolo adds stability and extra sustain. A real blues master doesn't really need a tremolo though. It's all in the fingers!

TBX tone control and mid-boost

The Fender Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster sets itself apart from other Strats with its highly versatile electronics. Beneath the first tone knob is a TBX tone control that consists of a 250 kOhm and a 1 MegOhm potentiometer stacked on top of each other. In positions 0 to 5, this functions as a normal passive tone control that filters out the trebles. In positions 5 to 10, however, a purer sound with clearer bass and treble is produced. The knob that is usually the second tone knob is now the mid-boost. It allows you to adjust the mids up to +25dB, which can make the single-coil pickups sound like fat humbuckers for stunning solos!
