Having lent his creative and dynamic playing style to countless records, Michael Landau now puts that magic touch on his very own Fender Coma Signature Stratocaster. Mike's masterful guitar work has featured on albums by some of the greats, including Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Mile Davis, Pink Floyd, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt... the list goes on. And throughout his session and solo career, the underground guitar icon was never seen without his Stratocaster: a 1959 model he affectionately calls 'Coma'. Now fully inducted into the Fender Stories Collection, this legend of an instrument has been made available to the masses and comes complete with a Navy Blue hard case, a strap and a Coma plectrum tin and sticker pack.

The Fender Coma Stratocaster: A Six-String with a Story

The story of the Coma Stratocaster began when the sixteen-year-old Landau stepped into a nondescript music shop in Los Angeles and picked up his first Strat. Since it had already been given a few modifications, Mike didn't shy away from adding a few tweaks of his own as his career bloomed. As such, Coma has seen a fair few incarnations: a full library of a different pickups; electronic setups; hardware configurations and bridges. Representing the current regeneration of the Coma, the first obvious feature of the Fender Stories Collection edition has to be the half-striped Dakota Red nitrocelullose finish.

The Wide-Ranging Workhorse

The '59 Strat body has been carved from a solid slab of alder before being loaded with a CuNiFe Wide-Range Humbucker at the bridge and a pair of ML Noiseless Single-Coil Strat pickups at the neck and in the middle - all developed exclusively for Mike Landau. This immediately lays down the full sonic spectrum, so everything from thick and solid rock to warm and tasty leads can be dialled in with ease. Another sweet detail is that the vintage-style tremolo bridge has been set into Floyd-Rose routing, giving this model the effortlessly cool look of a hot-rodded axe. The slab rosewood fretboard has an old-school 7.25 inch radius and a set of twenty-one narrow-tall frets to complete fully authentic playability, while the high-gloss-coated headstock has been fitted with Fender ClassicGear machine heads to firm up the tuning and polish off a reliable, wide-ranging workhorse of a model.
