Descrizione
Squire's Affinity Series puts legendary Fender models within affordable reach for beginners and more advanced string-pickers and includes this semi-acoustic Starcaster with striking '70s-style looks, sound and feel. The guitar has a semi-hollow body mounted with Squier Standard Humbucking pickups that ensure solid amplification of the acoustic foundation sound. Using the tone controls and three-way pickup switch, the electric character of this Starcaster can be further customised while, to make playing it that bit easier, the maple neck has a comfortable C-profile and a flatter 9.5-inch fretboard with narrow tall frets.

This guitar is great value for money, especially if you are ready to accept one or two slight short comings - these are perhaps to be expected at the price. The general build quality and paint finish is really pretty good and the design and handling is good too. The potential pliability is 'really' promising, again, for the price, but the setup out of the box was not great, with a high action and poorly adjusted pickup height.
I am happy to do the setting up (but if you are not, it would be worth getting this done), and this is where the short comings come in.
Firstly the tone control/pot does not do much and the toggle switch is not great quality. The second issue is partly a design failing (which I did realise before I bought the guitar) and this is the fact that the bridge radius is far flatter than the fingerboard radius, so action height is always going to be a compromise. This would be fine if the frets had been level, unfortunately, they were not. This is more than I would take on, so I'm having this done by a guitar tech I know... to me it's worth doing because overall the guitar is such good value and feels so good to play that this certainly justifies the work that's needed.
