You're probably familiar with ENGL's large amplifiers and amp heads: robust, black and ready to rock. However, the German brand also has some excellent effects pedals - six of them, to be exact, including this Compressor pedal! It's worth mentioning that they were designed in collaboration with the Russian Yerasov company. The German amp builders used the Russian designs, which were clean and simple to begin with, and cleaned them up even more. Four rotary knobs, an on/off switch and an input and output, that's all you really need.

Through thick and thin

Before long, this pedal will become a fast friend. With the compressor engaged, you'll get a nice even sound with a great sustain (which is adjustable using the sustain knob). The level knob adjusts the amount of compression, while 'tone' determines whether you get a clear sound, or a slightly muffled tone. Finally, the attack control adjusts how the pedal reacts to your playing, which creates a sound that's especially cool when combined with an overdrive effect.
