The concept behind Eurorack synths basically comes down to linking up small, usually single-purpose modules to create a custom, modular synthesizer that meets your needs. The downside? A fairly basic synth takes a hefty stack of modules, not to mention money and space. Fortunately, some manufacturers more or less cram a complete synthesizer into a single Eurorack module, which can be really interesting if you've just decided you want get into Euroracks. One such manufacturer is Dreadbox, who just dropped the Telepathy: a fully-fledged synth in the form of a 10HP Eurorack module.

The Dreadbox Telepathy

While the Telepathy isn't as extensive as most big 'real' synths, it more than covers the basics and sets you up with a solid subtractive synthesizer loaded with an analogue oscillator that doesn't just give you the pick of sawtooth, square and pulse waveforms but hands you control over a sub-oscillator. You also get two filters (24dB low-pass with resonance and a 6dB high-pass filter) and an extensive LFO complete with five waveforms, tracking, fade and more.

In addition to the above, the Dreadbox Telepathy serves up two envelopes (a VCA with velocity and a loopable envelope for your filter, pitch and pulse width); multi-timbral chaining with up to eight modules via MIDI; and a CV input that can be mapped to basic parameters, with unique values per parameter. There's even room for 16 sound presets and you're free to use CC and program-changes. If you're wondering why Dreadbox haven't turned the Telepathy into a standalone synth, just remember what Eurorack systems are all about: flexibility and modularity.
