In reality, most guitarists prefer analogue effect pedals over digital multi-effects. The problem with analogue pedalboards, however, is that these usually don't allow for quick and easy preset switching - something that tends to result in you having to tap-dance on stage. Fortunately, the bite-sized HEX audio switcher from Voodoo Lab offers a fitting solution by providing six independent, MIDI-programmable channels meaning that, using a MIDI pedal (not included), you can effortlessly access any programmed presets. In short, the HEX combines a fully analogue signal path with digital ease-of-use.

Construction

The Voodoo Lab HEX is so compact it'll easily fit on most pedalboards and if you already know your collection of pedals is only going to get bigger, you could opt to use two HEX units integrated into a 19-inch rack. As its name suggests, the HEX boasts six true-bypass loops, the first of which is fully independent and can be used for various things, including amp channel selection or Tap Tempo for a delay effect.

Sound, Controls and Power Supply

Since the design of the HEX includes true bypass, this incredibly useful tool won't affect your sound. The built-in buffer provides enough headroom so you can run longer cables to your amp without losing any signal quality and those infamously annoying 'clicking' sounds you hear when turning on true-bypass pedals are also a thing of the past with the HEX. As said, the unit can be optionally operated using a MIDI pedal (not limited to Voodoo Lab's own MIDI pedals) and requires a 9V power supply.
