Aside from their laptop, for most in-the-box-style producers, the MIDI keyboard is their most important chunk of hardware, so picking out the right model is crucial. Thankfully, Native Instruments' third-generation Kontrol line-up does away with choice overload. Designed for in-the-box production, the Kontrol S61 MK3 is perfect when it comes to controlling Kontakt libraries and not only features the latest modern perks, but a nice stack of included software. This is the medium-sized model in the range, putting a set of sixty-one keys beneath your fingers and giving you a solid balance of format and price.
The Native Instruments Kontrol S61 MK3
First of all, the large, high-resolution colour display means that you're looking at an even cleaner control lay-out and fewer buttons compared to the MK2 model. The LEDs just above the keys are still there and still colour-match with Kontakt so you can quickly access key switches or certain zones. For enhanced ease, you can even assign a different colour to every key in Kontakt. The Native Instruments NKS system has also been improved and offers direct mapping for over 2,500 virtual instruments from well-known developers. Then there's the polyphonic aftertouch - a phenomenon that's thankfully becoming more common. Every key features its own controller value, giving you deep control over the sound of every individual MIDI note which is especially useful when playing strings and wind instruments. Basically, once you know what it can do, you'll never want to write, make or produce music without it again.

Absoluut prachtig design. Erg fijn bespeelbaar keybed voorzien van essentiële midi functies. Ik denk dat als je hier eenmaal op heb gespeeld dat je niet meer anders wilt. Qua functionaliteit t.a.v bv. Maschine 3 valt het wel tegen t.o.v. de MK2. Veel functies zijn weggevallen. Daarvoor in de plaats zijn er wel meer mogelijkheden t.a.v. DAW integratie. Het zijn keuzes die NI moet maken om met de tijd mee te gaan denk ik. Het grote display is mooi en helder vooral als je met de Kontakt sampler of Komplete Kontrol aan de gang gaat want daar ligt volgens mij vanaf de Kontrol MK3 nu wel echt de nadruk op! Een zware USB C adapter moet ook nog worden aangeschaft om het keyboard aan de gang te krijgen anders komt er een melding dat er te weinig power beschikbaar is. Ik wacht wel met spanning de volgende firmware update af want ik mis over het algemeen toch wat functionaliteit voor een masterkeyboard.
Premières impressions excellentes : très bonne qualité de fabrication, très intuitif, bon clavier, bel écran, fonctionnalités intéressantes, parfaite osmose entre le logiciel et le contrôleur. J'attends de voir dans la durée, mais à ce stade c'est un clavier qui me donne envie de passer plus de temps derrière mon bureau pour faire de la musique !
Pracht apparaat. Had alleen problemen met firmware update van S61 naar 1.5.5 op windows 11 pro computer. Werd zomaar ineens onderbroken. Updaten met andere windows computer ging niet omdat s61 driver niet werd herkend. Gelukkig via imac (osx 13.6) geen probleem, upgrade succes. Met bijgeleverde sw krijg je mooie vst's er gratis bij...
Al met al een aanrader.
Geweldig apparaat. Zo enorm veel meer dan een midi keyboard.
Met de MK 3 versnelt je workflow, ik wist niet dat er zoveel mogelijk was met de Komplete Kontrol software van NI. Geen moment spijt ondanks de pittige prijs. Aanrader.

This is the best keyboard I've ever used and I am ultra-sensitive to keyboard quality because I am prone to get finger pain from playing. It just feels perfect. I've been waiting 20 years to get a keyboard like this: one with polyphonic aftertouch that just feels right to play.
Haven't really delved into the software aspects of it yet but the keybed just feels amazing. The poly aftertouch can add a lot of expressivity if you've set up a patch to use it properly.
