Get to Know the Classical Guitar With LaPaz
Always wanted to play the guitar? Most beginners start out with a classical guitar because the soft nylon strings are more forgiving for untrained fingers while the wide neck and fretboard give you more room to learn to grab those first chords. LaPaz serves up a broad range of affordable classical guitars that we've highlighted in a short-and-sweet overview below so you can easily pick out the right model for you.
The LaPaz 002: The Absolute Entry-Level Model
The LaPaz 002 is the best option for starters who're not fully convinced that playing the guitar is for them. This Spanish guitar keeps the price down and features a relatively lightweight, laminated basswood body. It's available in various sizes and colours, where the 1/2-size model is recommended for children aged 5 to 8, and the 3/4-size model is ideal for students aged 8 to 12. Learners aged 12 and up are best off with a standard 4/4-size classical guitar.
The LaPaz C30 and C50: One Step Up
Instead of the laminated basswood top of the 002, the LaPaz C30 and C50 models feature a spruce top. Spruce is one of the most widely used tonewoods and is known for shaping clear sound, which lends more definition to plucked notes. With the C30, you also get a satin-gloss finish for an extra smooth and natural feel, while the C50 boasts a sapele back and sides for a little extra sonic depth. The latter is a great choice for guitarists who want to accompany a singer.
The LaPaz C90: Solid Top
The top, or soundboard is the heart of every classical guitar. It's a thin slice of wood that's directly connected to bridge and plays a big part in turning the vibration of the strings and the resonance of the body into sound. The top can be made from either laminated wood or a single slice, which is what's called a solid top. The LaPaz C90 has been furnished with a solid top, ensuring optimum resonance and fuller, more forceful sound.
The LaPaz C100 and C200: Rich Sound
More serious beginners might want to opt for the LaPaz C100 or C200. These models feature a laminated spruce top that combines with a maple body in the case of the C100, and a rosewood body in the case of the C200. Maple is a high-density tonewood that helps shape the bright-and-fierce sound needed for flamenco, while rosewood is loved for its particularly complex sound and deep brown colour, making it a safe pick for fresh-faced singer-songwriters.
