Descrizione
Treated to a handful of modern upgrades, the EVH 5150 Series Standard is based on the famous hockey-stick-headstock-finished, ST-style models that Eddie van Halen played throughout the '80s. This versatile, redesigned classic features a smooth satin-gloss finish on the back its Modified C Backshape maple neck, and comes loaded with double the number of pickups its spiritual ancestor packed.
The 5150 Series Standard: Formidable Sound, Playful Killswitch Effects and Extreme Divebombs
Mounted directly in the lightweight poplar body and both based on Alnico II magnets, the two EVH Wolfgang humbuckers shape delicious double-coil tone that's balanced out with lush trebles. Next to a volume control, a tone pot and a standard-issue 3-way pickup switch, this Standard Series model features an orange killswitch for playful stutter effects, as well as a double-locking Floyd Rose tremolo in case you feel like doing extreme dive-bombs. Here, you also get the D-Tuna system for an instant drop-tuning set-up.

Ondanks mijn aanzienlijk groeiende ‘collectie’ had ik al een tijdje een oogje op deze gitaar, en dat was niet enkel vanwege zijn prachtige bare-bone stealth looks, maar vanwege een review die ik ergens online had gelezen, waarin de schrijver de gitaar vergelijkt met exemplaren van 2 tot 3 duizend euro, en dat deze axe, ondanks zijn prijs van nog geen 900 on par is met dat soort instrumenten. Nu heb ik zelf ook wel wat vergelijkingsmateriaal, dus ik was benieuwd. Bij het uitpakken viel me op hoe weinig de gitaar weegt, zeker in vergelijking met mijn andere op metal georienteerde gitaar uit de fender familie, de jim root stratocaster met emg pickups. Dit was lange tijd mijn favoriet qua sound, tot ik een solar killertone kocht met seymour duncan black winter pickups. Twee gitaren die qua pickups super om kunnen gaan met distortion. Maar de wolfgang pickups in deze EVH deden me versteld staan …. Wat een fijn geluid komt hier uit … en niet vanhalen hair metal, maar gewoon een dikke vette chug …. De dtuna is een fijne uitkomst (maar ik weet niet hoe het werkt met andere stemmingen) en met een floyd rose heb ik nooit echt problemen gehad …
